Yoga Workshop Backbending

Backbends have been associated with fear. Going deep into a backbend can help us over long standing fears and energise the body.

We will explore the safe way to enter back bends and look at which areas of the body need to be engaged and aligned for backbending to take pressure off the spine.

You will get to practice warm ups, fascial stretches and anatomical range of motion techniques as a way to reprogramme your brain. The mind may tell you that backbending is impossible but there are shortcircuits to allow backbends to deepen.

Find out what backbends are all about and how they can be incorporated into your personal practice

Yoga Workshop 7 headstands and handstands

The 3 hour workshop will explore some of the challenging aspects of the Rocket Yoga and intermediate Ashtanga Vinyasa sequences. The Rocket is a series of postures aimed to wake up the nervous system and build strength. Created by Larry Schultz, the Rocket makes advanced poses accessible to beginners and more experienced practitioners alike.

We will start building strength by isolating areas of the body and then introduce arm balancing sequences, handstand practice and 7 headstands Baddha Hasta Sirsasana A, B, C and D mukta hasta sirsasana A, B, C within the context of a Rocket routine. We use group work to support some of these postures all the time using tristana (breath, bandha, dristi) whilst stimulating both sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems.

Yin Yoga Classes in Plymouth

So much so often a yoga practice is about, there’s pushing to achieve something. This fits very much with a western mind set and our education culture.

Yin yoga is about slowing down and feeling our experiences. In Yin yoga classes most of the postures are seated.  This is different to many yoga classes but also the postures are maintained from between 1 and 5 minutes. This encourages fascia release and an opening of the connective tissues. Yin yoga can also allow us to feel more balanced and calm. Through a type of yoga which uses accupressure points to stimulate the organs and includes ‘balance’ as a means to good health and wellbeing.

Our Yin Yoga class gives you SPACE for you.

SPECIAL EVENT YOGA CLASS, YOGIC FOOD, YOGIC VIDEO INSTALLATION IN PLYMOUTH

YOGA CLASS, YOGIC FOOD EVENING WITH YOGA VIDEO in PLYMOUTH
MONDAY 29TH APRIL 18.15-20.30

WE RESUME OUR 2019 YOGA CLASSES WITH A SPECIAL YOGA EVENING 18.15-20.30 at St Saviours Hall, Barbican, PLYMOUTH, PL1 2NR
Beginning with an open yoga class for all levels (beginner to advanced)
Followed by a delicious plate of yogic food
The class will include a video installation by video artist Stavros Didakis.

Come for our first class of 2019.  It’s a class with a difference.

The class is accessible for all. It will be a blend of energetic yoga techniques with slow restful postures to allow time to reflect. If you are a bit rusty or new to yoga you will be able to try out most of the postures and given alternatives where necessary.
Using audio visual installation we will participate in a one hour yoga class. The sounds used are those that have benefits for cleansing the body as recognised through yoga theory.
The remainder of the evening will be trying the delicious yogic food freshly prepared, with a chance to discuss what makes a yogic diet.

(if you have a medical condition and have not been to a skinnibuddha yoga class before then just get in touch to confirm the class will be ok for you).

Video artist Stavros Didakis has produced a video interpretation of the inner workings of someone who was experiencing a yoga class. Using computer generated images the video aims to represent feelings which cannot be described through words alone.  The video sequence will be played during the evening (during the class and food)
If you missed out on the food evenings we held last year then get your name down and book a space for this evening.  Or if you enjoyed the last evening don’t wait to book.  We will be dishing up some more varieties of yogic food for you to try.  100% vegetarian. 90% vegan (any dairy is kept separate).

Thank you for giving me the best gift, a wonderful introduction to yoga.
I feel very privileged to have had this experience.

— Angie, skinnibuddha yoga attendee
